The Day a Lifelong Dream Became a Major League Reality

On May 31, 2015, at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Tyler Wagner walked onto a Major League mound for the first time. Wearing a Milwaukee Brewers uniform, the 24-year-old right-hander made his debut as the starting pitcher against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Only days earlier, Wagner had been pitching for the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers. Years of early mornings, long road trips, bullpen sessions, minor-league bus rides and minor league lifestyle. When he took the mound in Milwaukee, he officially became a Major League Baseball player.

Wagner recorded the first strikeout of his career against Mark Trumbo and competed through 3⅔ innings in his first appearance at baseball’s highest level. The game eventually became a 17-inning marathon, with the Brewers earning a 7–6 victory on a walk-off home run from Martín Maldonado. 

Wagner was sent back to AA following the game. 

For one afternoon in Milwaukee, a childhood dream became a Major League reality.

Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fourth round of the 2012 MLB Draft, Wagner worked his way through every level of the organization before receiving the call to the major leagues. He would later pitch for the Arizona Diamondbacks and earn his first Major League victory.

But May 31, 2015, was the day everything changed.

It was the day Tyler Wagner became a big leaguer.
